From The Box – Developing Jose Villarreal

On this episode of  CoG: From the Box your host Josh Guesman is joined by LA Times Soccer Reporter, Kevin Baxter (@KBaxter11) to talk about the development of Jose Villarreal.

It was right before the 2012 season when the LA Galaxy signed Inglewood native, Jose Villarreal. He showed tremendous promise as part of the LA Galaxy Academy and that excitement filled over into his inaugural season.

Then, in 2013, Villarreal started 12 games and made 22 appearances in this “break-out” season. Trying to build on that momentum, and buried behind Robbie Keane in the depth chart, the Galaxy loaned Jose out to Cruz Azul. He didn’t play with the 1st team and ended up coming back to the LA Galaxy before the loan was up. Was his confidence crushed? His trajectory ruined?

On this show Josh and Kevin Baxter talk about Jose Villarreal, his development and what the LA Galaxy look like with Jose on the left wing. Is this his position to keep? Is he a Landon Donovan mimic? Does his style of play benefit the LA Galaxy? All of those questions and more LA Galaxy knowledge are discussed.
