Sunday evening at StubHub Center’s Track and Field Stadium began quietly, in front of a crowd of 727 loyal fans, including LA Galaxy’s Head Coach Bruce Arena and one of last night’s stars, Bradford Jamieson IV. But LA Galaxy II ended a drought and won their first match of the 2015 season with a 2-1 victory over Austin Aztex.
Following a lackluster first half that saw numerous unprofitable chances from Los Dos, Ariel Lassiter scored the first goal of the match in the 65th minute off of Raul Mendiola’s well-timed assist. It was Mendiola’s 4th assist of the seaon, putting him in the league’s top spot. Austin’s reply came in the 80th minute with Touray Sainey taking advantage of a loose ball and neatly tying up the scoreline. Minutes later, LA’s #40 finally got his moment of glory, his first goal of the season, with a skillfully-placed goal in the 84th minute from Ryo Fujii’s assist. Raul’s performance definitely caught everyone’s eyes tonight.
LA Galaxy II (1-3-1) return next weekend when they take on Real Monarchs SLC April 25 at 7:30 p.m. PT at Rio Tinto Stadium.
