Carson, CA – LA Galaxy Designated Player, Giovani dos Santos suffered a muscle strain in the 1-1 draw with the Seattle Sounders on Sunday night.
In his eighth regular season start for the LA Galaxy, Dos Santos was playing on the artificial surface at Century Link Field when the injury occurred.
It is unclear when in the game the strain to his muscle occurred or where on his body the injury took place. But Giovani dos Santos was down on the turf shortly before being subbed out of the match in the 87th minute for Alan Gordon. At the time the LA Galaxy were leading the Seattle Sounders 1-0.
Dos Santos will miss the CONCACAF Cup on October 10th and he has been recalled from joining the Mexican National team. He will stay with the LA Galaxy during their bye week.
The good news for the LA Galaxy is that they are not scheduled to play another match until hosting Portland on October 18th at StubHub Center. That gives Giovani dos Santos 2 weeks to recover and rehab.
No time table was given for his recovery nor was the extent and severity of the injury announced.
For the LA Galaxy, who just secured a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs, it may be wise to ensure that a 100% healthy Dos Santos is ready for post-season rather than rush his recovery back for the final two games of the regular season.
