CoG Studios, CA – Ondrej isn’t your typical LA Galaxy fan. On any given day you can find him on twitter (@buryto9) supporting the team and it probably isn’t until you click on his profile, or stumble upon his work, that you find he’s watching from a distance.
Ondrej watches all of the LA Galaxy’s trials and tribulations from the Czech Republic. And he does it because, to him, it doesn’t matter how far away the club is. It only matters that he sees great potential for the sport within the States and he wants to be a part of it.
Having played the game since he was five years old – he’s currently 20 – he knew nothing about the LA Galaxy until a certain Englishman came across the pond in 2007. And while some probably question whether David Beckham actually made people fall in love with the LA Galaxy, Ondrej knows the answer.
It was 4AM in the Czech Republic when he sent me a Direct Message on Twitter, during the Santos Laguna CCL match, to tell me that he was watching. He said that Gio should’ve scored and that he was excited by Jelle Van Damme. He’s as knowledgeable as any LA fan on twitter and you can tell that results matter and that winning is something he expects from his club.
Perhaps that’s the transition we need in this story. Below you’ll find Ondrej’s artistry on full display. Clearly he has a passion for the team and it’s players. Whether that’s the aforementioned Van Damme, the very popular Sebastian Lletget, the highly skilled Giovani dos Santos, or one of my favorites, AJ DeLaGarza in the skinny jeans.
Regardless of your take on his art, it’s very evident that his passion for the LA Galaxy runs deep. He’s dedicated to a team that plays thousands of miles away for a cup he’ll probably never get to see in person.
But despite the distance the LA Galaxy are his obsession, his passion, and his team. He’s as much a supporter of the LA Galaxy as the person who stands and cheers in general admission for 90 minutes. And he’s on equal footing with any supporter who’s separated by multiple time zones.
So for now, Ondrej will continue to stay up until the early morning hours, he’ll set his alarm for 4AM, and he’ll cheer his team, the LA Galaxy, until the sun comes up.
