McBean Scores Two As LA Galaxy II Cruise To Victory

Captain Jack McBean scores his first two goals of the USL season in 3-0 Victory.

Curt Onalfo and his LA Galaxy II side continued their winning ways in 2016 knocking off St. Louis FC.  Jack McBean sandwiched Byram Rebellon’s goal in a 3-0 victory at the StubHub Center.

Early in the game, in the 9th minute, St. Louis failed to clear their lines and the ball fell to Jack McBean. The young striker had the opportunity to test the keeper but failed to do so as the shot got caught with ease. Off of another set piece opportunity, Jaime Villarreal showed off his control. He chested the ball down to his preferred right foot, but his volleyed shot missed the target.

Los Dos started to show their quality as the opening half progressed. They were working the wide areas while trying to stretch the St. Louis back line. Denzel Slager had the ball near the touchline and sent a cross towards the eighteen yard box. Bradford Jamieson rose high to meet the delivery but failed to reach the target. This was a better sign though as the young G’s started finding space in their attacking third of the pitch.

The goal came two minutes before halftime. It started with Villarreal’s work on the defensive side. He won a ball near the eighteen yard box and slotted a quick pass to McBean. The captain then proceeded to round the opposing goalkeeper before finding the empty net.

Less than two minutes later, there was a second goal scored. Jamieson got the ball on the left side of the pitch. He found Byram Rebellon in acres of space. Rebellon unleashed a long range shot, and with the help of a deflection and a kiss off the upright, he doubled his side’s lead.

Los Angeles continued to work down each flank in the second half. Bradford Jamieson IV won the ball off a St. Louis defender just outside the penalty area. He sent a cross back towards the middle of the box where Jaime Villarreal was waiting. Villarreal took a touch and turned before firing his shot wide of the target.

Jack McBean completed his brace 13 minutes into the second half when he stood over a free kick and curled his attempt around the wall, hitting the bottom right corner. If Los Angeles is going to go far in the USL this season, McBean will have to be at his best. The 21-year-old showed glimpses of what the future could hold.

LA Galaxy II will go on the road for first time this season as they head to Salt Lake City to take on Real Monarchs. This match will kick off at 6:00 PM PST on Saturday, April 2nd.
