LA Galaxy’s Jack McBean to go on Loan with Coventry City

Carson, CA – LA Galaxy Striker and Homegrown player Jack McBean looks to be headed to English League 1 side, Coventry City. The loan will be for six months with a possibility of extending the agreement for a year.

McBean, who’s spent most of this year with the LA Galaxy’s USL side, is the current goals leader in that league with 15 goals. He was also recently re-signed to an MLS Homegrown player deal in June by the LA Galaxy’s Senior team after spending a year on a USL contract with LA Galaxy II.

A source close to the deal said that McBean was approached after his appearance in the Chipotle Homegrown Players game that was part of Major League Soccer’s All-Star game week.

McBean has already been training with the club and an announcement should be made soon once all the necessary paperwork has been completed. Jack holds both a United States and British Passport making this a deal that would be difficult to complete for some other players.

Making the transition easier, former UCLA and Seattle Sounders player Andy Rose, has been helping ease McBean’s transition onto the Coventry City side.

Coventry City is an English club with a long history. They joined the Football Association in 1919 and was an inaugural member of the Premier League in 1992. Their only major trophy came in 1987 when they won the FA Cup after beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-2.

Coventry City was relegated from the top flight of English Football in 2001 after spending 34 consecutive season in the top flight, and after several seasons without promotion eventually fell to the League 1 and the third tier of the soccer pyramid.

Coventry City lost their season opener to Swindon Town FC 1-0 on August 6th.

This loan deal should be a chance for McBean to hone some of his attacking skills on an English team that will put him to work. I’d expect that this loan deal also sees the opportunity for Jack to come back to Major League Soccer, in 2017, an older and much improved player.
