Jack McBean Update: Coventry City Loan Continues with Hope for First Team Minutes

It’s been almost eight weeks since LA Galaxy Homegrown player, Jack McBean went on loan with English League 1’s Coventry City. And although he hasn’t made his debut for the first team, he is racking up experience with their U23 side.

McBean has scored four goals with the U23’s and has been a part of at least two other scoring plays.

But the transition to England and a different team hasn’t been easy. “It’s been tough mentally going from second division in the states where I was playing and hopefully I will get better and enjoy the experience and hopefully step on the field with the first team and score some goals,” McBean said speaking to the Coventry Telegraph. “I miss the sun a little bit but I’ve settled in well. The guys have been really welcoming.”

The LA Galaxy agreed to a 6-month loan deal that would send Jack McBean to Coventry City until the end of 2016 Calendar year. Allowing him to get back with the LA Galaxy for preseason. We originally reported that deal back on August 7th, 2016.

This was an opportunity that came about because of McBean’s participation in the MLS All-Star Homegrown game. And it’s an opportunity that the Galaxy seem to have given McBean in an effort to challenge the young striker.

McBean seems ever aware of what is being asked. “It was something they wanted me to do to challenge myself and something I wanted to do as well.”

For the LA Galaxy, any growth of this outstanding prospect would be a plus. And even a U23 side in England is still probably played at a higher level than some USL games. So the experience should be well worth it. “I try not to worry about that, just try to score some goals whether that’s for the Under-23s or first team and hopefully it will work itself out,” McBean told the Telegraph. “But I’ll help in any way I can and if the team wins it’s a bonus.”

But with a Coventry City senior team that is having trouble scoring goals, shouldn’t it be time to give Mcbean a try?

“I try not to worry about that, just try to score some goals whether that’s for the Under-23s or first team and hopefully it will work itself out,” McBean told the Telegraph. “But I’ll help in any way I can and if the team wins, it’s a bonus.”
