LA Galaxy to host NYC, Earthquakes, and WhiteCaps during 2018 Preseason

LA Galaxy will travel to Tucson with 11 MLS teams, then host games in SoCal for 2018 Preseason

The LA Galaxy will host three MLS sides in their run-up to the 2018 regular season, the club announced today.

The Galaxy’s preseason training will get underway on Jan. 22, when players report to StubHub Center for physicals. They will depart six days later for training in Tucson, Ariz., where the five-time MLS Cup champions will participate in the Mobile Mini Sun Cup, which features 11 MLS sides and the USL’s Phoenix Rising FC in a round-robin type of tournament.

The Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, New England Revolution, Portland Timbers, New York Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders, and Sporting KC are the MLS sides that will join the Galaxy in Tucson.

The full schedule for those games and that tournament will be announced at a later date.

The Galaxy will return to StubHub Center on Feb. 5 and host New York City FC on Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m. Admission will be free for 2018 season ticket holders. The mezzanine (200-level seating) will be closed for preseason games and all season ticket holders will get a chance to relocate to available seats.

The Galaxy then will head to Irvine, where they will host the San Jose Earthquakes in a preseason California Clasico on Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. at the new Great Park Soccer Stadium, where USL and Los Angeles FC affiliate Orange County FC plays its home games. Stadium seating capacity is 2,506, but there is room to seat another 2,500 on a berm surrounding the facility.

The Galaxy also will host the Vancouver Whitecaps on Feb. 24 at 7:00 p.m. at StubHub Center. Admission for that game, which could be the Galaxy’s preseason finale, also is free for season ticket holders.

The full preseason schedule, to be announced shortly, is expected to include the dates of the Galaxy’s new 2018 home kit release, as well as at least one preseason season ticket holder event — possibly similar to the team introduction and town hall meeting at StubHub Center at the end of February.

Tickets to the games at StubHub Center will go on sale to the general public on December 12.

The Galaxy currently are preparing for the MLS expansion draft on Dec. 10 that will officially mark the entrance of expansion side LAFC into MLS. Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid has said he is hopeful of having the majority of his roster – which currently numbers just 13 players — in place by the start of the preseason.
