Podcast: Prepping for the round of 16. LA Galaxy take on Portland in Open Cup play.

On today’s show, your hosts talk a North American World Cup, and why the LA Galaxy should be taking a “full squad to face the Portland Timbers in the US Open Cup.

CoG Studios, CA — The LA Galaxy are getting ready for an unexpected trip to the Pacific Northwest to face a team they just got done battling with. The club will face the Portland Timbers in the round of 16 in the US Open Cup on Friday night at Providence Park in a winner-moves-on tournament game.

Your hosts, Josh Guesman and Wendy Thomas are back to get you all the important details but also discuss the Galaxy’s focus heading into a relatively important game. Is this game more of a distraction than an opportunity to win a trophy? Will the Galaxy take a full-strength roster with them? Will Zlatan Ibrahimovic be available? What lineup could we see against the Timbers?

Josh and Wendy will attempt to answer all those questions while braving a show-interrupting power surge, and audio malfunctions.

They’ll even throw in some World Cup talk. Afterall, it is the eve of the 2018 World Cup and the United States, Mexico, and Canada has just won the right to host the 2026 World Cup. So a little talk about the global sporting event is probably warranted.

Did the Galaxy figure some things out against Real Salt Lake? Enough that this Open Cup game could help them keep that momentum going? It’s an interesting topic that is sure to bring out people who just want to win every trophy and the more realistic people who say that splitting the Galaxy’s focus right now might cause some long-term damage.

And while there are no concrete updates on Sebastian Lletget and Romain Alessandrini, Josh will give you a lineup that puts the Galaxy in contention for a win on Friday night.

It’s a great (and frustrating) show that you won’t want to miss!
