Podcast: Missed chances, VAR, and a shot at first place for the Galaxy

The LA Galaxy lost to New York over the weekend thanks to a bad VAR call. But they have the chance at first in the league if they beat Columbus.

COG STUDIOS, Calif. — We haven’t done a Monday night podcast coming off of a loss since the beginning of March. And with the LA Galaxy loss at the New York Red Bulls, we’ve got a lot to talk about especially as the Galaxy get ready for a midweek game against the Columbus Crew.

Your hosts, Josh Guesman, and Kevin Baxter are back to discuss the Galaxy’s loss and why VAR played a significant role. They’ll also explain why this loss is probably following a more vital, more general trend of the Galaxy performing poorly — they’ve just gotten the results before this.

Did New York do something to the Galaxy that caused the poor performance, did the club’s body clock get in the way of a successful outing in New Jersey, and did Jonathan dos Santos have his worst game of the season?

Josh and Kevin will also update you on how the Galaxy manufactured money and why Favio Alvarez is the player Dennis te Kloese hinted at earlier this year. Did the Galaxy have to get more TAM to sign Alvarez? And could things still go sideways before the Primary Transfer Window closes shut at 9:59 p.m. PT?

Finally, the guys will get you ready for Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s homecoming, as he heads back to Columbus to on the Crew. It’s an early game out West, and that might not be good for the Galaxy.

It’s a battle between two teams who are headed in opposite directions — Columbus has lost their last five games, and with a win, the Galaxy could take over first in the Western Conference and the Supporters Shield.

And the Galaxy will be the only Western Conference team to play on Wednesday night. That means they’ll have a chance to pick up points that no one else can, right now. Putting them in the drivers’ seat this weekend.

It’s a busy month for the Galaxy, and we’re here to talk you through it. Are you a fan of VAR? Or would you like to see it go away?
