PODCAST: Cabral a surprise DP with tons of Galaxy pressure

The LA Galaxy are putting a lot of pressure on a 21-year-old Frenchman who just became their third Designated Player and a Pavon replacement.

COG STUDIOS, Calif. — Surprise! The LA Galaxy signed a 21-year-old as their youngest Designated Player in club history. But when we first were looking at Kevin Cabral, we had assumed the Galaxy were going to get him under a different Mechanism.

On today’s show, hosts Josh Guesman and Sophie Nicolaou discuss why that all changed and what that means for a team that is now out of Designated Player slots. And does this really mean the end of Cristian Pavon?

Let’s face it; Major League Soccer does a horrible job of explaining all the rules to everyone. Josh will do his best to give you an advanced crash-course in why Cabral isn’t going to be signed under the U-22 Initiative and why the Galaxy are still calling that a win.

And how much are they paying him? If the reports are accurate, Cabral just got his first big payday. But why is Samuel Grandsir also another important signing to the success of Cabral? And why are the Galaxy so sure on a 21-year-old that has a lot of upside but not a lot of experience?

During the show, Josh and Sophie will make sure they get their thoughts in on the Galaxy’s preseason draw with the Colorado Rapids and tell you why Saturday’s game against Real Salt Lake could be a crucial match.

But they’re also going to highlight some Galaxy II signings that have some first-team impact, get you through another retro fashion drop and make sure you’re following along with the Galaxy’s new supplemental development deal. Maybe your kids will be at Dignity Health Sports Park to be assessed by the Galaxy Academy coaches.

We’ve got a jam-packed show brimming with the details you need to explain what the Galaxy did with Cabral. Go forth and teach the masses!
