36-year-old midfielder Sacha Kljestan secures a spot with the LA Galaxy for 2022
CARSON, Calif. — The LA Galaxy announced they reached a one-year contract extension with 36-year-old Sacha Kljestan that will keep the midfielder with the club through the 2022 season.
Kljsetan, who joined the Galaxy in 2019 after two seasons with Orlando City, has played in 46 games with the club with five goals and four assists and amassed 2,163 minutes over that span. Overall this will be his 13th season in the league with time spent across Chivas USA, New York Red bulls, and outside the league with RSC Anderlecht in the Belgian first division.
“We are pleased to bring back Sacha, who provides a wealth of experience to our group and adds depth and leadership to our midfield position,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach Greg Vanney. “He’s one of the most experienced players to have ever played in Major League Soccer and our club will continue to benefit with him on and off the pitch.”
The Huntington Beach, California native was originally selected by Chivas USA with the fifth overall pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. And he represented the United States at the U-20 and U-23 levels before making 51 Senior Team appearances for his country.
Details of the deal were not publicly released. According to the MLSPA Kljestan made $247,350.00 in guaranteed compensation in 2021.
