The Galaxy will get one of the biggest midweek games in recent years as they host LAFC in the US Open Cup.
CARSON, Calif. — The LA Galaxy know their opponent, venue, and time for their Round of 16 match in the US Open Cup. And boy is it a big game.
The Galaxy were drawn into a four-team group that included USL side Sacramento Republic, and MLS sides the San Jose Earthquakes and Los Angeles Football Club.
And almost as expected, the Galaxy drew LAFC as their next opponent.
But, because they were the first team selected in the group the Galaxy will host the Open Cup El Trafico, and, should they advance past LAFC, they’ll get to host the quarterfinal matchup as well.
The LA Galaxy announced on Friday that the game would take place on Wednesday, May 25 at Dignity Health Sports Park at 7:30 PM. The club also announced that Season Ticket Members would get tickets to the match as part of their season package.
Additionally, the Galaxy will make single-game tickets available starting on Monday, May 16. More details will be released shortly.
This will be the first time the two teams have met in a US Open Cup game, and the match, in Carson, will put the Galaxy’s unbeaten home record against LAFC on the line.
Both teams will play a heavy schedule leading up to the match, but whereas they may have tried to rotate some players for a midweek Open Cup match, they’ll now both likely set up their squads for this non-league face-off.
LAFC currently sits in first place in the Western Conference and the Supporters Shield race with 23 points. The Galaxy are third on both tables and have already beaten LAFC, at home, in 2022.
