LA Galaxy host the Portland Timbers in 2018 Season Opener before traveling to face NYCFC in week two.
The five-time MLS Cup Champion, LA Galaxy, will open the 2018 season by hosting the Portland Timbers, the League announced today. The game, which is likely to be a nationally televised match, will kickoff the Galaxy’s 23rd season in Major League Soccer on Sunday, March 4 at 7 p.m. PT at StubHub Center in Carson.
This will be the 19th time the two sides have faced each other with the Galaxy holding a 7-6-5 record, all-time.
The Galaxy will be looking to open the season with a victory for the fourteenth time in club history and attempt to avenge a 1-0 loss at home to the Timbers in their second game of the 2017 season — a game that infamously saw Jelle Van Damme get suspended after two successive dives from Timbers players.
The Galaxy will then travel across the country for their second-week matchup against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium. That game will also be played on a Sunday (March 11). The game will kickoff at 2 p.m. PT.
The Galaxy’s hosted NYCFC last year in a 2-0 loss that was also the debut of newly signed Designated Player, Jonathan dos Santos.
Tickets for the Galaxy’s home opener will go on sale to the general public on Friday, December 22 at 10 a.m. and a special presale will be held for Season Ticket Members on Thursday, December 21, also at 10 a.m.
The Galaxy will report for preseason on January 22 before departing for Tucson and then eventually returning to Southern California to host three preseason games (PRESEASON SCHEDULE) prior to the first game of the season.
The remainder of the Galaxy’s schedule will be released at a later date.
