COG STUDIOS, Calif. — On this episode of Corner of the Galaxy, Josh Guesman and LA Times soccer reporter Kevin Baxter break down the Galaxy’s wild 3-2 comeback victory over the Colorado Rapids, their second consecutive come-from-behind win by the same scoreline. For the first time this season, LA has won back-to-back games, and with only six matches remaining, the Western Conference playoff race has taken a dramatic turn.
But this one looked lost at halftime.
Colorado carried a 2-0 lead into the break, repeatedly finding space behind the Galaxy defense. Then Greg Vanney changed the approach. LA became far more aggressive with its pressure, disrupted Colorado’s attempts to play out of the back, and turned that pressure into opportunities. The result? Three unanswered second-half goals and three enormous points.
João Klauss continues to show just how much the Galaxy missed him. After months away, the striker is creatingproblems again, and his pressure directly produced another goal against Colorado. Then Justin Haak delivered the winner, heading home Robert Taylor’s corner for his first LA Galaxy goal and earning recognition on the MLS Team of the Matchday.
Josh and Kevin also examine the tactical details behind the comeback. Sergi Roberto and Pablo Ruiz started together in midfield, while Vanney’s second-half adjustments allowed Roberto to exert more control and Haak to push into unexpected spaces. Add Marco Reus as a dangerous second-half option, and the Galaxy may be discovering a formula that can change games late.
And don’t overlook JT Marcinkowski. The goalkeeper made crucial saves that kept a 2-0 deficit from becoming something much worse, and the Galaxy have now rewarded him with a contract extension.
