COG STUDIOS, Calif. — The LA Galaxy are back in the MLS playoff race after a crucial 2-0 victory over the Portland Timbers! But with just four games remaining in the 2026 regular season, can Greg Vanney’s team keep the momentum going against San Diego FC?
On this episode of Corner of the Galaxy, Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira break down the Galaxy’s much-needed response to their embarrassing 6-2 loss to St. Louis CITY SC. Marco Reus opened the scoring, Justin Haak found redemption with a second-half goal, and JT Marcinkowski earned LA’s first clean sheet in nine matches.
But was this a turning point for the Galaxy or simply three necessary points against a struggling Portland team?
The guys examine Vanney’s surprising decision to start Emiro Garcés, John Nelson’s impressive defensive performance, and the growing contributions of João Klauss, Robert Taylor, Joseph Paintsil, and Sergi Roberto. They also discuss LA’s improved attacking production, the importance of scoring first, and whether the Galaxy have finally found a formula that works.
With 39 points and four games remaining, the Western Conference playoff race is tightening. Can the Galaxy secure a postseason berth? And how much will their final results influence Greg Vanney’s future as head coach?
Then it’s time to preview Saturday’s massive Southern California showdown against San Diego FC!
The Galaxy have yet to defeat San Diego in their previous meetings, and with Chucky Lozano still sidelined, LA faces another difficult test. Josh and Eric examine the matchup, injury concerns, potential lineup decisions, and what the Galaxy must do to collect another three points.
Plus, the LA Riot Squad celebrates its 25th anniversary, former Galaxy star Gyasi Zardes returns to Dignity Health Sports Park, and the guys deliver their predictions for Saturday night.
Can the Galaxy turn a disappointing season into an unlikely playoff run? Or will San Diego once again stand in their way?
