The Galaxy announced a host of events, including a racial equity town hall and a socially-distant rally, leading to the return of MLS soccer.

CARSON, Calif. — The LA Galaxy announced that a live scrimmage would be televised as part of the lead up to the club’s return to soccer after the league was forced to pause because of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The scrimmage between the senior MLS side and LA Galaxy II, who play in USL, will take place on Thursday, July 2 (11 AM; Spectrum SportsNet). The game will consist of two 25-minute halves as the Galaxy get back into shape for the “MLS is Back” tournament being held at Disney and ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

Adding to the list of events for the week, the Galaxy will hold a Town Hall on Racial Equality on Wednesday, July 1, the scrimmage on July 2, a socially distant rally on July 3, and a Zoom send-off on July 6.

Everything will be kicked off by an LA Galaxy Town Hall on Racial equality that will take place at 6 PM on Wednesday. The event will be on YouTube and will be hosted by Allen Hopkins. It will including panelists Cobi Jones (LA Galaxy Legend) and Scot Thompson (Adidas). They’ll be joined by guest Aaron Dolores (Founder of Black Arrow FC).

Following the scrimmage on Thursday, the Galaxy will host a “Socially Distant Rally” event at Dignity Health Sports Park. The rally will kick off at 11 AM on Friday, July 3, and will consist of supporters staying in their vehicles to help send the team off to Orlando. The club will walk down the main driveway for socially-distant photos and cheers.

Finally, as the team departs for Orlando on July 6, the Galaxy will have an exclusive and interactive send-off via a Season Ticket Member Zoom call. This call allows season ticket members to tune into the live shot and to wish players good luck as they board the bus.

The Orlando tournament starts on July 8, but the Galaxy’s first game won’t be until July 13 as they take on the Portland Timbers at 7:30 PM on FS1.
