KEEP AN EYE ON: LA vs. FC Shirak

I’m like you: I’m pumped for tomorrow. Tomorrow we get to see our LA Galaxy in action for the first time in 2014. Tomorrow we deck ourselves out in blue & gold, tomorrow we hoist flags and sing songs and raise a ruckus. And most importantly, tomorrow we get some answers.

LA Galaxy vs. FC Shirak: here’s what to keep an eye on.

Forget about who Bruce is going to start in midfield. That’s not the interesting question. What’s interesting is what we’ll start to learn, right alongside Bruce: Who is going to work in midfield? Does Baggio have the precision to be a playmaker? Is Ishizaki the missing link on the right? Will Rogers show up this season? Will Zardes live up to all his innate talent?

Don’t expect any of those answers tomorrow. Expect the beginnings of those answers.

And then there’s our pair of new target strikers. With Keane likely still out, we may be in for a 90 minute look at Rob Friend and Samuel. We know they played well against Chivas USA. Time to see how well they play for a crowd.

Tomorrow’s the day LA begins experimenting with a multitude of combinations of 11 men. Preseason is short. You can expect Bruce to make the most of it.

Don’t be surprised if there’s a whole new middle line after the half. Don’t be surprised if Landon sees both sides of the field. Don’t be surprised if LA looks like a team still in the embryonic stages. They are. They’re figuring it out.

It’s just a game. Keep that in mind. Got it? Cool, now forget it. It’s the first game of 2014! Go wild! Have a blast!

I’ll see you there, and if not, I’ll see you on the other side.
