Steven Gerrard and His Hamstring Will Sit for Awhile – Injury News

It’s getting to the point where we can’t even make jokes about players getting hurt anymore. Steven Gerrard picked up a hamstring injury in the LA Galaxy’s 0-0 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Gerrard was forced to exit that game in the 31st minute and was replaced by another one of the injured LA Galaxy players, Gyasi Zardes

GYASI ZARDES OUT FOR REST OF 2016 WITH BROKEN FOOT

Speaking to LA Galaxy Insider and other gathered reporters after training today, Bruce Arena confirmed the extent of Steven Gerrard’s hamstring injury saying that the midfielder would be out “a couple of weeks” due to a strain according to Serrano.

Gerrard has played in 19 of 26 games this season for the LA Galaxy and has 3 goals and 11 assists. He’s technically played one more game than Nigel De Jong and 6 more games than Robbie Keane. However, he’s still had a mixture of injuries and all his missed games can basically be attributed to injury. Although the club said his exclusion from the LA Galaxy’s 2-2 draw was due to “squad rotation.”

The LA Galaxy now have three likely starters who are out with injury. The aforementioned Gyasi Zardes will be out with a broken foot for the remainder of the 2016 regular season, and Jelle Van Damme is sidelined 2-3 weeks with a left MCL strain. Add in the weeks Gerrard is likely out and LA starts to look a little thing.

Arena, for his part, says that team will just have to rely on their depth. Saying “That’s why we build a roster. We build a roster to deal with adversity and injuries. That’s what we’re doing.”

The LA Galaxy will need to regroup and get ready for a test of this depth when they host Columbus Crew on Saturday, September 3rd at StubHub Center.
