CoG: From the Box – The LA Galaxy Midfield Isn’t working

Whether it’s injuries, off-season trades, retirements, lackluster play, or a complete lack of performance, the LA Galaxy midfield is struggling to keep this 2015 team afloat.

On today’s show, your hosts Josh Guesman and LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano are joined again by Latin Times Sports Editor, Michael Duarte. Together these gentlemen will attempt to break down the issues that have plagued the LA Galaxy midfield 1/3rd of the way through this MLS season.

With offensive injuries to Robbie Keane, the midfield has been exposed as an incomplete project. Baggio Hasidic, Juninho, and Stefan Ishizaki are attempting to fill the whole left by Marcelo Sarvas and Landon Donovan. An injury to Jose Villarreal has taken what was a very promising start at left midfield and made it into one big waiting game. And with youngsters vying for positions all over the pitch, the inconsistencies are stunting their progress.

The LA Galaxy, for their part have brought in new names. Mika Vayrynen, Sebastian Lletget and Steven Gerrard have, or will soon, be putting their stamp onto this midfield. But will these ever rotating pieces of veterans and youngsters find the stability to bring the LA Galaxy back into the hunt for a sixth MLS crown? And can anyone really expect Steven Gerrard to just plug into a struggling offensive midfield and fix everything?

It’s a packed show with great insight from the guys who cover this team every single day.
